According to a report by PWInsider, Nigel McGuinness approached TNA about working out a deal when WWE decided to pull its previous offer after he failed a prescreening procedure. McGuinness' prescreening reportedly turned up several injury issues that led to WWE having less interest in signing him including having two torn biceps and a pair of concussions during his time in Ring of Honor.
His deal with TNA went down around five to six days ago and was told to stay quiet about it. TNA had attempted to sign McGuinness in the past, but he had originally agreed to a new deal with ROH. Were also told that his new ring name in TNA, Desmond Wolf, was something he came up with and the new doctrine in TNA is to use new names so they can trademark them.
Any earlier reports suggesting that Bryan Danielson was also on his way to TNA are not true as he recently passed the prescreening process and is expected to debut anytime now in WWE. Danielson also expressed zero interest in ever working for TNA several years ago.

Nigel McGuinness as Desmond Wolfe is based on a character in the 1987 UK film, Withnail and I. In the film, one of the characters suggests Wolfe as an alternative name to his own for use in an acting career.
- I asked Nigel McGuinness this yesterday What are your reactions to signing with tna and what made you come up with the name? He said this to me today. I didn't come up with it. Meaning the name of wrestling name TNA came up with it. Nigel has seen everything that you guys posted about by me. I have his personal contact information like his e-mail address I run his fan page on myspace I run his fan space on yahoo group to. Myself and this 1 guy named David support Nigel 100% As I have known him for a while now and I am his # 1 fan also his supporter to. He even said to me today to thanks for the support all ways. He is my friend

The Daily Star in the UK is featuring an interview with former ROH star Nigel McGuinness - now known as Desmond Wolfe in TNA. Here are some of the highlights.
On reports he failed a WWE prescreening test: "I had a clean bill of health from my orthopaedic guy and my local doctor, so it's not about that. I don’t hold against anything against them, it was a business decision, and they were only doing what they think is best for them. As for me, I am very eager to prove my worth. It means so much to me that Dixie, Terry and Kurt have faith in me, in my vocation and my work. I will repay that faith."
On the opportunity to work in TNA Wrestling: "I am very glad for the opportunity to work in TNA. I know AJ, Daniels, Joe and those guys from ROH already - when I first came in there I was watching them work and learning form them. It's a real positive for me having Doug and Nick here too."
On his new name Desmond Wolfe: "Everyone is asking me where I got the name from - someone said Withnail and I - but Vince (Russo) said he did an internet search of the most popular British names and came up with Desmond Wolfe!"
On getting to work with Kurt Angle right away: "Who gets the opportunity to come in on their first day and beat up Angle, I mean that's huge! Kurt has been great, just like everyone else - he's really open to ideas. I said this in the pub the other night - if you’d have told me that I would be working Angle three weeks ago - I would have laughed, I guess that’s one of the wonderful things about life in general that it can happen - one door closes and another one opens. Talking to Kurt, well, just look at the guys he’s worked with; it's a who's who of legends. Austin, Rock - that’s the level he is at, and it can only benefit me."
