For years, I swore I would never run a wrestling show! NEVER! But you throw out one idea to your wife and this is the time she actually listens:) I told my wife what she thought of me running a show for Cancer research. She quickly jumped up and pulled up COMMUNITYCANCERNETWORK.ORG online for me to look at. What a great cause I thought. Helping Cancer patients "fight the fight". Let's do it!
Well not exactly that easy at 1st. Like I said........I did not want to run a show! So my wife tells my mom....and well the rest is history! What can I say, "I'm a mamma's boy"! We talked about our plan of attack and went for it. 8 weeks later, 1 tv interview on WLFI, 1 Radio interview on K105, a add in the paper and TGIF, A commercial on ESPN radio in Lafayette, 700 flyers, including walking from Pizza King on teal rd. all the way down to Arni's on Market Square, cut over to 9th st. then all the way back up to Pizza King on Teal, flyering Hooters during PPV, Going to BMF shows to flyer, selling over 1000 chocolate suckers, flyering small towns like Dayton, Mulberry, and Romney right before Halloween, drinking way to many energy drinks, Paying for all the wrestlers out of my own pocket, being a nervous wreck because of not 1 or 2 or 3 but 4 cancellations, the willingness to help me out from other wrestlers, talking to some incredilble generous local business owners and talking to some real dusche bag business owners (on a side note, hope your businesses burn to the ground, talking to you Arnis at Market Square and the Downtowner!), staring down a old lady at Octoberfest for not taking a flyer, to getting some donations from the most unlikely of people.
I am 3 and 1/2 days away from my show. I'm nervous, excited, ready for it to be over with. Being a perfectionist I hope it's a great success, but if it fails, I truly believe I have done all I can and I think deep down, my dad, who is looking down at me right now from above.......can be proud of that.
