At the risk of pissing off the might Old school, I'm going to make a thread about something most people love in some form or fashion! MUSIC!!!
(Warning I'm adding more then music!
What are you listening to, Concerts, Project Play list! Talk about it!
Here are some concerts I've been to that come to mind....
My first real concert: Confederate Railroad @ The Trumbull County Fair July 1997. My mom is tone deaf so the only music she likes are story songs. Also she's a homebody and isn't a fan of big crowds. That was also the only concert I've ever been to with my mom and sister, so that day stands out to me.
Lilith Fair 8-5(?)-97 @ Star lake Amphitheater in Burgettstown, PA : I stocked Mix 98.9 WKBN (at the time) for a full week before I won concert tickets. At first my step brother was going to take me then me backed out a week before the show and if my mom's girlfriend hadn't stepped up and taken me I would have missed the show.
This was my first big concert. Sarah McLaughlin, Sheryl Crow, Shawn Colvin, Lisa Loeb, Jewel, Christina Agliara (?) and more at one show! The venue was huge and it took three stages over a course of Seven hours for all the bands to play.
I remember I found a Twenty just laying on the ground during that show. I taped a little bit of that show. ( This was before people were arrested for taping shows with cells phones) Mostly Shawn Colvin's set. I still listen to it.
The Indigo Girls were on the show as well but the weather got bad during Jewels set and the show was delayed. We left during Sheryl Crows set.
Blessid Union of Souls @ The Southern Park Mall early December 1997. This was a free concert sponsored by Hot 101. I woke my poor mother up @ 5:30pm in order to get to the show early and I was still stuck way in the back of the building. People were camping out as soon as the mall opened @ 9:00 am for spots. I remember my mom had to fight with women who had commandeered 10 chairs just so we could sit down and eat dinner.
At one point these girls nearly broke their necks trying to stand on a table during the show.
Lilith Fair '98 @ Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio
Sarah McLaughlin, Natale Merchant, Bonnie Raitt, Luscious Jackson, Desiree, Susan Tedeschi, Alexis Antes (Remember this name because she keeps popping up), ectra.
My Mom and her Friend took me to this show for my birthday. They pretty much stayed in their seats while I explored all day. Bonnie Raitt was they only band they really liked. I remember I actually had to play tapes of the artists to make sure my mom could tolerate the bands. They went to the car to rest earlier in the night. I remember laughing my but off when my mom told me about how she had to fight with some kid at the front gate to let her back into the building to get me. My mom is not a women to trifle with.
Natalie did a cover of Oasis' "Wonder Wall" and then she told the crowd not to tell the boys the girls were doing their songs.
Its funny to me now because I'm such a huge Alexis Antes fan, but all I remember about her set is that she wore a little shirt with out a bra.
Wallflowers, The Jay hawks & Maypole @ the Mac center in Kent, Ohio December 1998. I won Tickets from of Hot 101. Jakob Dylan had this weird hold over the crowd. Its like we were hypnotized.
Elton John @ Blossom June '99 : I took my dad for Fathers day.
Blues Night @ the Rib fest in Boardman, Ohio. July 1999( The weekend of Woodstock '99): I can't remember any bands off the top of may head, but that was a fun night. I treated my dad to the show and then on the way home he had to stop at Rally's and buy me a burger because everything was so expensive at the Rib fest I only had enough for a few rib bones after paying to get in and I was starving.

I went to that show with my buddy Jim. He was worried about the show being a lesbian fest. I had been to the tour in '97 and '98 and I honestly didn't notice any. I fact I remember a bunch of teenage girls at the '97 show. I think I didn't notice them because I was in the Pavilion watching the stage for the first two years of it, and I just wasn't paying attention. I just knew I was one of the two hundred men there out of 18,000 people.
I think thats one of the things people over look about Lilith Fair.
The people showed up. People talk about it now like it was just a few freaks and weirdos. Everyone from all walks of life went to Lilith Fair. Especially in '99 When Debra Cox & the Dixie Chicks were there.
When Jim and I went we were on the lawn. So of course Jim and I were surrounded by lesbians. To this day, I still hear about that.
At that show Liz Phair was kind of like a Hippie chick. It was so strange a few years later when she come out with a sex queen image. Everything about her was different.
