Has wrestling really changed all that much from the old days to now ?? It may have been modernized and it certainly has become a faster-paced event , but what we see now has always been around .The old adage that wrestling never really changes was more true then now as the young or new-age wrestlers are only carrying on the tradition laid out by their forefathers in this business. It only seems that in a world of the Internet and Satellite Television , todays wrestlers are a whole lot bigger than life . The first decade of professional wrestling was spectacular . Certainly the names are different , but wrestling just has not changed all that much . Look at the gimmick matchs thoughtout it's history , steel cages to ladders matchs to bull-rope matchs to chain matchs , but we all can always be certain that someone will get drilled with a steel chair . And the classic feuds between wrestlers have been ongoing since the dawn of the sport and will only keep going on .
Now has anyone got anything to add to this ??

Oldschool your faces change but the game is still the same theory doesn't hold as true as it may seem. Let's look at the different aspects of the wrestling world. In Hardcore wrestling. Japan turned the event into a true spectacle years ago but it continues to revolutionize in many ways. From back in the days when maybe using a steel chair was considered hardcore to the current days when we see weapons such as lightubes, glass panes, barefoot thumbtack matches and so much more that we would've never seen in the olden days. We could look at the high flying form of wrestling that has certainly changed in the most. There are moves like the 630 and the Double rotation moonsault that would've never been attemoted or even thought of in the days of thingy the Bruiser. Wrestling is a complicated superhuman in todays world with the speed and technical style that every wrestler performs in a different way that entertains the fans. It's absoultely necessary for todays world. Basically to put it the fans of your day would've cheered a suplex or a dropkick but in this day and age the faces and the game has changed. Today you would have to get hit with a weedwhacker or leap from the heavens to get the same pop. Wrestling has evolutionized it's ways to conform with it's crowd. In a world with high speed this and instant that everyone wants something now. They want high octane, complex, adrenaline charged wrestling. And in todays world fans want the total package. There can't just be a strong guy or a quick guy or a guy with a good gimmick. Fans want a fast guy who can throw you round and also talk on the mic. I will however give you the fact that alot of things haven't changed and alot of things won't change. It's a classic sport and a true form of art and to be able to translate that art form into something entertaining is what gives fans a reason to watch the independant wrestling scene. And honestly you get something different in every country. I try my best to keep up with Mexico, Japan, and America all at the same time because they all have differnt things to offer. Mexico is very family related where wrestlers where masks that represent themselves or thier family as a sign of respect. The outfits in Mexico are elaborate and flamboynt but the idea hasn't changed. In Japan wrestling is a full fledged sport and gets all the respect it deserves. I talk to alot of people about the same subject to get their opinion on it but wretling fans in Japan are alot different than they are here. Watch a japanese match when the fans stay dead silent untill they see a spot worthy of applause and then they clap a few moments and back to dead silence. There is no need for a gimmick in Japan because everyone gets the same respect face or heel. In America you seem disrespectful if you were to stay silent and only applaud during spots and I've been asked about it because it's what I do. In Japan the wrestlershve a full entourage with them at ringside including trainers and coaches much like American UFC or close to even Boxing. The basic idea i'm getting at is that wrestling is different all ove the world and is continuosly changing. Sorry for ranting. Thanks, xPUNKx

In Japen , the popular Tiger Mask wrestler is a character devrived from a children's cartoon program . You name it --when it comes to professional wrestlers , they truly have been there , done that. Whatever your background , wrestling has made its impact on the soul. The young watch with hypnotic-like wonderment and older people watch it with child-like faith. In Japan , many "high-society" members grabthe first-row seats , similar to the chosen few who are invited to the opening of a Broadway play. There are no sterotypical wrestling fans. The link between all of us lies in the PASSION . It may seem to be a modern-day spectacle now, but wrestling has always been imbedded in pop culture and society. Promotions give the fans what they want to see to make money .
Yes , i will agree here , Mexico , has the mask wrestlers --why --it's what sells ---Japen has the MMA style --why --it's what sells plus it's the way of life there . ( i spend 4 years there , and watched the sport), the fans bonded through out with the wrestler .
When mainstream society began to jump on the popularity of wrestling and ride its coattails to profit (promoters) , it had to change to keep up with the demans of society . There are still heroes and villains , winners and losers , franchise players and underdogs , and fans with an insatiable desire to incude wrestling in their lives in some shape or form . At times , we 're fans whose eyes gazein wonderment at the spectacle. At other times we're cheerleaders. Who can't be effected by the raw , unbridled charisma of the performers, at times still , we are critics , we get mad at the storylines and finishes that make no sense or a gimmicks that rub us the wrong way .
It's all part of being a FAN. The Native Americans have been grappling for thousands of years ,thoughouthistory , whatever is going on in society in any part of the world is what we see in a wrestling ring . Like anything else , wrestling has made numerous changes over the past 100 years ,for that matter look at a pay-for-view, we could see the face of wrestling change over the following 100 minutes . But at the CORE , pro. wrestling really has notchanged all that much over 100 years ---it's still the same --grapplers ,contested in feats as spectators watch .
History lesson ; Abraham Lincolin , was a wrestler and won a Championship at age 21 , by beating Jack Armstrong ---wrestling 's roots can be traced to the Bibilical days .

So you see we both have valid point here. In a way wrestling is in an everchanging forward momentum yet it still always returns to it's roots in the end. Basically, the game of wrestling hasn't changed but the sport inside the ring has. Kayfabery has been around for a large percentage of wrestlings days and with kayfabe omes storylines that are also timeless. Although the stories are similar, they are different. So really niether one of us has a full valid point to this other than to rant about a beautiful art. That is wrestling. Wrestling coul change or it couldn't, in a way it's done both, but nonetheless no matter what wrestling has done it remains one of the largest spactacles in the world of entertinment.

Thank you--punk --your getting the point here ---at least your thinking ----it's a sport that you like or hate --To those who believe in the beauty of professional wrestling , nothing needs to be said . For those who don'tappreciate wrestling nothing could be said to change their minds . And YES it is the oldest sport in the world . Now let's hope it never dieds .
But this has been very nice to talk about with you ---and you have shown me again --you got the heart !!
Plus the "thingy " thing is very funny --it happens on every board so far .
