Friday Night July 31st was without question the bloodiest and most brutal night of HWA action in history as things got hardcore in the heartland at Drake Younger's Psycho Circus!
Things kicked off with an over the top rope Bunkhouse Stampede. The final four participants included JT Stahr, Matt Taylor, Chad Cruise and V-Rad. And it was V-Rad who defied the odds and won the Bunkhouse Stampede.
The HWA American Luchacore Championship was on the line next with the debuting Chance Prophet taking advantage of the open challenge President for the Day Drake Younger made for anyone to come in and face the champion "Astonishing" Aaron Williams.
Prophet looked good against Williams, but the champion looked even better that night as Aaron walked away the winner.
Drake Younger then made his first appearance of the evening as he introduced the first ever Drake Younger Invitational... and the first match in the Invitational would see Dameon Daniels (substituting for The Juggulator) against "Relentless" Ron Mathis in a Thumbtack Match.
Mathis absorbed a great deal of punishment at the hands of the larger Daniels, but he proved resilient as he blocked out the pain and defeated Daniels with a splash from the top rope to claim victory and advance into the Fans Bring The Weapons finale.
The second match in the Drake Younger Invitational would pit Jon Moxley against Scotty Vortekz in a Dog Collar Match. And while the two men were chained together they were not chained down as the action spilled out of the ring and all the way into the balcony of The Sorg Opera House.
In the end "The Most Dangerous Man in the HWA" Jon Moxley would walk out the winner and advance into the finals.
The third and final opening round match in the Drake Younger Invitational featured the man himself, Drake Younger against Christian Faith in a Four Corners of Fun match. Weapons included a pizza cutter, a cheese grater, a kendo stick and a water jug bat.
The hardcore action from earlier was taken up a few levels of ultra-violence as a bloody Drake Younger fought his way to victory over the larger Christian Faith putting Drake in the finals with Mathis and Moxley.
Christian Faith's tag team partner Vincent Nothing was up next as he squared off with "King Vu" Richard Phillips. Vu who has been having his way with some of the smaller members of the HWA roster had his hands full with the powerhouse Nothing.
But with The Love Connection at ringside, Vu got the win as he marches towards HWA Road To Destiny on August 22nd to fight HWA Heavyweight Champion Jake Crist.
After the match, Matt Taylor who demands he be the only man to introduce Deja Vu got in the face of guest ring announcer Tim Tatum. Unfortunately for Taylor, Tatum's boss for the night Drake Younger was listening and he punished Taylor for disrespecting one of his employees by putting Taylor in the leather strap match with Brian Beech, since Beech's scheduled opponent, "The Madness" Chris Hall failed to appear.
Even worse, Taylor had no time to prepare for the match as it was happening right then and there.
Beech showed up the referee strapped both men in and the action was on. Taylor put up a fight but he was in the wrong place at the wrong time against the wrong guy as "Bad Attitude" Brian Beech got the better and got the win over one half of The Love Connection.
Then in the main event it was the finale of the Drake Younger Invitational as Ron Mathis, Jon Moxley and Drake Younger put their bodies on the line in a Three Way Elimination Fans Bring The Weapons Finale.
Despite being eliminated first after being put through light tubes, Ron Mathis turned a lot of heads with his performance in a high pressure, extremely dangerous main event situation.
Words can not even begin to describe the torture the two remaining combatants did to one another, as Jon Moxley and Drake Younger continued to have one of the bloodiest rivalries in all of independent wrestling.
But on Friday Night July 31st it was Jon Moxley who beat Drake Younger at his own game, winning the first ever Drake Younger Invitational.
After the match Drake gave Mox his props, but also issued a challenge to meet him in a rematch on Saturday Night August 22nd at the Norwood Recreation Center as part of HWA Road To Destiny.
If you are a fan of hardcore wrestling this will be a must see DVD release!
